A Brief Biography
Initially certified by the McKinnon School of
Professional Massage and Bodywork in 1984, and subsequently licensed
by the State of Oregon in 1989 - for more than 20 years I have devoted
myself to massage therapy and continued my education in whole-person
wellness.
Born in Kansas and raised in the Midwest and Eastern Cities, I say
I'm from Rochester, N.Y. (age 10 yrs. to 18 yrs. old). In the fall of
1976, I drove to California, and that winter lived in Lake Tahoe, working at
a ski resort. A job at local restaurant took me through the summer, until
I started college in Southern California.
My first time living in San Francisco was during that summer of
1978, when I lived and worked here, and then returned to the
University of Redlands (Johnston College) for my second year. At the
end of that school year, I took an eight-month sabbatical, and
returned to Rochester, N.Y. to work. In the winter of 1979, I
transferred to San Francisco State University, and have made this
special city my home ever since.
My studies were mostly in the area of psychology, sociology and
health and also included Spanish. It was at University and through
friends in San Francisco that I grew in awareness of the mind/body
connection and in the general field of holistic health. When I
graduated in 1983 with a BA in Liberal Studies
(magna cum laude), I continued as manager of a local shop
until 1984, when I attended Massage School. After receiving my
certification, I started this private practice, and ever since have
wholly supported myself through what I love — providing
excellent Massage Therapy.
Throughout my life, I have had a deep interest in humanity, and in how
various cultures live and view the world. I have experienced life in
Central Mexico, Bali Indonesia, Thailand, Europe, Australia, Russia —
and even among the Lakota people of this land. Currently, I am interested in
Tibetan Lay Buddhism.
